Light on the iconic Jerwood Library, Trinity Hall, Cambridge. Some of you may know this pathway in to central Cambridge, which enjoys a pedestrian bridge over the River Cam through some stunningly timeless architecture. Here is the Jerwood Library basking in the sunshine, built in 1998 by the fantastic people at Freeland Rees Roberts Architects.

Office photography - refurbishment work in progress

October 05, 2020  •  Leave a Comment
Mantle Business Centres asked for some work-in-progress images of a new office property they have taken on at 9 Hills Road, Cambridge. These images are really helpful in conveying just how much work goes on behind the scenes to refurbish offices to modern standards. They also wanted a clean looking image for this office exterior - which isn'...

Architectural Photography - Japanese Inspiration - RIBA East Shortlist 2020

September 30, 2020  •  Leave a Comment
I had the pleasure of photographing this Japanese inspired house for Haysom Ward Miller. The story behind it is a fascinating one, one which challenges our tendency to accept design. Instead of overseeing a proposed structure (the plot they bought came with planning permission), the owners here used their cultural influences and design ideas to set...

Kilkenny Avenue, Ely

Video completed for Palace Green Homes at a former MoD site in Ely. ‘The homes at this development are particularly light and airy inside, with good size rooms and generous storage space, so we felt that it was really important not to clutter them but at the same time, we wanted to show how different types of households could live really comfort...

Trail Running in the Lake District

July 14, 2020  •  Leave a Comment
⛰️ Slightly off the architectural photography path this time but what a path it is! Up at 5am, on the trail by 5:45, Natalie and I ran an 18k route up Cat Bells, across Maiden Moor and over High Spy before descending through an abandoned slate quarry toward Derwentwater and returning to the trail head along a delightful path beside the water'...

Delighted to be featured by Architects' Journal this week. Hats off to Haysom Ward Miller for another wonderful project. A gorgeous outcome, providing a home full of light and natural materials. I spent days here watching the sun roll its rays through the room and highlight its different shapes and elevations. Combine this sun with the roof ligh...

Here is Saunders Boston Architects development of the New Barnet Leisure Centre. They have created a fantastic pool and leisure complex for the community and there was definitely a buzz about it when I spoke to the visitors, including dog walkers who enjoy walking in the park next to it early in the morning. The light from inside helps them to s...

It's amazing how some buildings find a way to hold their own in terms of time and design. This is certainly one of them. A stunning building, which includes this theatre space. I photographed this for my clients back in November 2013 and it still looks as fantastic today. Architect: Bland Brown + Cole Acoustics Consultancy: Charcoalblue Constr...

It's been an exciting few months since the last entry on this news page. Instead of not having much to say, it's been quite the opposite - I've been working on some really interesting and varied projects with clients. One of them has brought about the introduction of virtual tours. This is a new offering I will be making available to clients from n...

Photographs of the Award Winning Cambridge 'Eco' Mosque

November 11, 2019  •  Leave a Comment
Recently I had the pleasure of photographing the new Cambridge Eco Mosque for the Cambridge Association of Architecture. We looked ahead at the forecast and dressed with loose clothing as it was what turned out to be the hottest day in UK recorded history up the road in the Cambridge Botanical Gardens at 38.7 degrees. Fortunately the Mosque provide...

Richard Fraser Photography - Slideshows

October 02, 2019  •  Leave a Comment
Sometimes clients ask me to make a short slideshow sequence to showcase their designs or projects. This I can do... Here is a recent example for a client who had completed a refurbishment of a historic building in to 17 separate bedrooms for short stay language students. Their aim was simple: make the accommodation look new, clean and inviting eno...

RIBA House of the Year 2018

December 02, 2018  •  Leave a Comment
And it won! I cannot tell you how pleased I have been this past week - we found out that all of the effort photographing Lochside House in the freezing cold Scottish winter has helped its cause. This house has not only won a RIAS and RIBA National Award, but now has been crowned as House of the Year 2018 by the fabulous Kevin McCloud on Channel 4'...
