Sports & Leisure Architecture Photographer | Richard Fraser

Specialist photography for sports, aquatic, and leisure facilities. Documenting wide-span engineering and dynamic community use for the UK's leading architects.

Sport and leisure architecture presents a unique set of visual challenges: vast wide-span structures, highly reflective surfaces, and the essential need to show dynamic human interaction. Whether it is a community aquatic centre, a private health club, or a state-of-the-art sports hall for an independent school, I document the energy of the space alongside the technical rigor of the engineering

I have collaborated with industry leaders such as David Morley Architects, a practice renowned for its exceptional sports and leisure portfolio. A prime example of the impact of leisure architecture is the Grade II* Saltdean Lido. Capturing this project required balancing the technical restoration of the concrete diving boards with the vibrant, sunlit energy of a public pool. The resulting images supported the project’s win at the AJ Architecture Awards 2025.

Many of the UK's most innovative sports facilities are built within the education sector. When photographing independent schools or university sports hubs, my background as a former teacher provides a distinct operational advantage. I seamlessly navigate the safeguarding requirements of school environments, coordinating shoots that capture students actively engaging with the new facilities without disrupting the timetable.

My Service Includes:
  • Aquatic & Wide-Span Expertise: Technical light management to counter glare on water and highlight complex, long-span roof engineering.
  • Dynamic Usage: Capturing the 'action' and flow of people, proving to stakeholders that the facility performs perfectly for its end-users.
  • Safeguarding & Discretion: Deep understanding of child protection protocols for working safely in schools and public leisure centres.
  • Logistics & Pre-Planning: Utilising my structured Client Booking Pack to coordinate the shoot around public opening hours, pool schedules, and optimal sun paths.
