I’ve been working with RHP for years now and photographing Saltdean has been one of the highlights. It’s been an incredible year for Saltdean Lido, and I’m really pleased to see the team at RH Partnership (RHP) getting the recognition they deserve.
You might have seen the recent announcements, but if you missed them: the refurbishment of this Art Deco gem has just picked up a Civic Trust Award and the AJ Architecture Award for Heritage Project of the Year.
It is a massive achievement, not just for the architects, but for the local community who campaigned so hard to bring this "Palace of the People" back to life.
Shooting a Seaside Icon
When you’re shooting a Grade II* listed building that has been given a new lease of life, the job is all about balance. I needed to capture those clean, modernist lines and the stark white concrete against the blue Sussex sky, but also show how the space actually works now that it’s open to the public again.
It’s not just about pretty pictures; it’s about proving the design success. Seeing my shots used as part of the award submissions and seeing the project actually win is a brilliant feeling. It helps me to confirm what I always say to my clients: well-planned, well-executed photography helps you tell the story of your work in a way that judges, juries and the public can instantly understand.

Let’s Get Your Work Seen
For architects and designers, these wins for RHP are a great reminder of why we document projects in the first place. It’s to celebrate the building/place/space itself, sure, but it’s also to build the reputation that wins the next commission.
As we head further into 2026, I’m looking to working with more design-led projects that need that same level of attention - be it a huge civic building like this or a smaller, perfectly formed design. They all have their story to tell and if you think it's worth telling: get in touch!
Got a project completing soon?
If you want to make sure your project stands up against the very best (and maybe pick up an award or two along the way), let’s have a chat about how to photograph it - I'm always happy to listen and talk things through. Contact me here.
